Coverage map for VT-Nebraska Game

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

covmap.jpg

The picture above is the coverage map for this weekend’s Virginia Tech v. Nebraska game.  Only 30% of the United States will get to view the VT-Cornhuskers game, while the other 70% will get to view a Top 25 battle of #22 Illinois and #12 Penn State.

For most of those close to the region of Virginia will be OK to watch the game.  ABC/ESPN has elected to do a split-split-national broadcast for this weekend’s game, which some people will be shutout of the HOKIES game.  Last weekend’s VT game against UNC was a reverse mirror broadcast in that if the game was on ABC regionally, the game would be on ESPN outside of that region.  This is a better approach in order for the majority of people/fans to view a game.

And yes….even those living in Maryland will get the VT-Nebraska game; as long as you get ABC 7-WJLA out of Washington, D.C.  Thank god for living close to that hellhole.

“One of those other tailgates”: Nebraska’s BIG RED MEAT WAGON

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

From time to time, SpitzerTailgate.com gets random emails and messages from fellow tailgating sites; whether it be for college or professional teams, or websites such as TheTailgater.com.  I was recently contacted by the BIG RED MEAT WAGON, a tailgating group for the Nebraska Cornhuskers; our opponent for this coming weekend.  The BIG RED MEAT WAGON is characterized by a couple of things.  For one thing…their unique vehicle stands out in my mind…a red and white ambulance, more commonly known as THE WAGON.  With the tailgates that are centered around the ambulance, one can also receive a “one and only stretcher shot”….yes this involves laying on a stretcher and taking a shot through an IV tube.  What more could you ask for???  This Hokie is speechless…about the tailgate, that is.

I say good luck to the Cornhuskers of the BIG RED MEAT WAGON this coming weekend when the Hokies come to Lincoln, Nebraska.  SpitzerTailgate.com will not be in attendance, but it’s great to see that other colleges throughout the country also have a love for football and also…the ever-revolving and changing world of TAILGATING!!!

My take, I could write a book…Virginia Tech has a lot of work to do. I am sorry to say I purchased the game on ACC Select only to see the worst video feed ever. The camera was way too close to the play for you to see any development. In fact, you couldn’t see anything beyond the offensive/defensive line width wise. There was no clock so I had no idea how much time was left. I think clearly Tyrod gives the team the spark they need but still feel strongly that Glennon has the better deep ball arm. Tyrod can throw 10-15 yard rockets. Pretty bad offensive play calling, yet again. Everyone knows that the best way to avoid the blitz is with the screen pass or quick slant. Once again defense loads the box and we try to pound it out up the middle which just doesn’t work. I think if ever there is a question of going for it on 4th and 1 Evans needs to be in, QB sneak w/ Glennon, or wait a minute do we have a fullback?

Evans in my opinion is the clear choice for running the ball through the tackles while Lewis is excellent in the open field. I would like to see the option run more with Lewis or the halfback pass out of the backfield. I think the HB needs to do a better job of blocking in pass protection. We need to roll the QB out of the pocket more. I think Tyrod gets the offensive game ball for 100+ yards rushing and completing 4/5 passes for 26 yards (once again very accurate short ball) Defense did well overall. Unimpressed with our pressure on the QB although Orion Martin got into the back field a couple of times. I think Virgil is a standout player and is going to really make some plays down the stretch however, it seems to me that he gets out of position some which could cause us to be vulnerable for the deep ball since the QB has all day to throw. The starting LBs do a fair job of clogging the middle but when Houseright comes its over.

Houseright and his second string cronie leave the TE wide open up the gut as was evident in the 4th quarter TD by Furman. We made some powerful hits this game compared to against ECU so our D must have worked on some tackling. D gameball split between Virgil and O. Martin.

A side note, ECU thumped WVU (#8) which makes me think we might be a little better than my original 3 win prediction although time will tell. Glennon made, in my opinion, some pretty tasteless comments to the Roanoke Times. He is a me not a we player, very disappointed in his comments. I think we will struggle next week against the Rambling Wreck. Our D better bring their A game. Our OL better provide some protection to Tyrod and open some holes for our running game. I look for some pittiful play calling by Stiney. Nonetheless, I am a faithful fan so …. LET”S GO HOKIES!

“HOKIE GIRL PERSPECTIVES”: “The Right to Boo” by Squirt

***THE ARTICLES ARE THE WRITTEN EXPRESSIONS OF THE AUTHORS THEMSELVES AND DO NOT REPRESENT THE SOLE OPINIONS OF SPITZERTAILGATE.COM***

It has been brought to my attention in recent days that Virginia Tech has horrible fans. Why? Because we booed our own quarterback. So, here are my thoughts…

I just spent about $95,000 for an education from the prestigious Virginia Tech, I spent countless hours slaving over papers, homework, tests, and reports, I gained 30 pounds because I ate shitty, processed food for 4 years, I was a devoted RA, I worked 3 jobs at one time, and I loved every second of it. I bleed orange and maroon. I am a devoted Hokie, a proud alum, and an accomplished individual. So, why did I get drunk and boo my own quarterback? BECAUSE I CAN.

While some see my attitude as greedy and slovenly, I see it as my God given right. If I so choose to go to my own school, on my own campus, in my own stadium and boo my own quarterback, it’s my choice.

Yesterday, Hokie Hotline took comments from your run of the mill suburban soccer mom… thank God she wasn’t a lipstick wearing hockey mom… I digress… Suzie Homemaker is offended because she brought her overprotected children to a college football game and they were horribly exposed to foul language, drunks and obscene gestures. Well, I’ve got news for you lady, you took them to a college campus. Although you’ve already forgotten the days when you put on your best hoochie outfit, fell on your ass outside of Hokie House and got arrested for public intoxication, we have not. We are teens and 20 somethings that are still young, lifted, and cesarean scar-free. Football is a time for tailgating and drunkenness and if you haven’t figured that out yet then open your botox ridden eyes- you’re on a college campus. Get drunk or go home.

So, back to the booing Sean Glennon debate. Today’s issue of the Collegiate Times features a writer horribly disgusted by this past weekend. She writes, “If you are going to be a fan, be a fan. When I looked up the definition online, I saw words such as “supporter” and “devotee.” It listed nothing about critical, booing college students.” First of all, the fact that you needed a dictionary to look up the definition of a fan is sad. Didn’t you pay attention in class? My drunk ass did. Looking up shit in the dictionary to fuel a speech or argument is tacky and overdone. On another note, your horrible writing reminded me of another something I recently read.

Joel Westheimer considers politics and patriotism. Defiance (holding ideas conflicting with those of lawmakers, politicians and leaders) is often seen as unpatriotic. In other words, if you don’t support the all mighty George Bush, you’re a traitor. As educated people, we all know this isn’t the case. You can disagree and defy your leaders, so long as you hold true to the fundamental ideas of your country. Real patriotism means to question, to voice your opinion. When what we stand for is the right of every man, to maintain your silence as an individualism is treason.

I see this explanation of patriotism applicable to Hokie Nationalism. If I don’t like what’s happening, it is my obligation as a citizen of Hokie Nation to voice my opinion, whether intoxicated or sober. Is Frank Beamer gonna blow up my cell phone asking for my thoughts on the quarterback situation? Probably not. So, I will voice it where I will be heard- from the top of the East Stands on game day.

On another note, you too should be booing Sean Glennon. Not only is he great at throwing interceptions and a giant pansy who is afraid to take a hit, he is a complete jerk. I’ve seen in with my own eyes. I was working at a restaurant downtown when he came strolling in with his girlfriend. Not only was he rude, a picky eater, and a complete ass to his girlfriend, but she picked up the tab and he shut the door in her face on the way out. Additionally, there are countless stories floating around of Glennon’s “I own this town” attitude. So, boo him I will.

In closing I’d like to leave the Hokie fan-hater with some advice: have a drink or two… or a dozen, leave your godforsaken children at home where they can play and learn in the safety and security of their own sheltered homes and last, but certainly not least, stick it in bitches.

SpitzerTailgate excited about Furman tailgate!!! SANDMAN will be in attendance!

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

apib01flag14.jpg

SpitzerTailgate.com is looking forward to the first home game for Virginia Tech this weekend against the Furman Paladins.  SpitzerTailgate’s very own vehicle, SANDMAN, will be in attendance and will be unveiled for all people in Blacksburg this weekend.  Check us out in the Duck Pond Lot on Saturday morning!

As referenced by the picture above (BCA Classic v. Georgia Tech in 2000; also known as the time that lightning struck Lee Corso’s rental car), it may be a stormy weekend.  Hurricane Hanna is still active and will make landfall tomorrow in the Carolinas.  Currently, it looks like Hanna might dump some rain on Saturday morning…but that could all change.

Also….by the way….in case you didn’t read the news this week…….TYROD TAYLOR’S REDSHIRT HAS BEEN LIFTED!!!

LETS GO! HOKIES!
