It was reported yesterday that ex-Hokie Branden Ore will now be going to Wheeling, West by God Virginia to play Division II football with West Liberty State College.  The Hilltoppers (wtf?) finished their season last year 8-3.  Good luck Branden.

The coaching staff of the Virginia Tech football team announced the winners of the Spring Awards on Saturday afternoon during the Spring Game.  They are as follows, as reported by HokieSports.com:

Paul Torgersen Award (top newcomers)

SpitzerTailgate.com has updated their TAILGATE RECIPES section with a recipe from a fellow camper at Martinsville Speedway. SpitzerTailgate was in attendance for the weekend and was able to experience Mr. Tom Habana’s Crazy Mountain Man Breakfast. Needless to say…it was amazing! CLICK HERE FOR THE RECIPE!!!

The September 6th football game in Blacksburg against the team of the Furman Paladins has been declared a White Out! game.  White Out! t-shirts are available for sale at all campus bookstores in Blacksburg at a cost of $6 each.  The proceeds of this will go to Herma’s Readers, a non-profit organization started by Herma Beamer, Frank’s mother, who was a school teacher in the Commonwealth of Virginia for over thirty years.  The proceeds will be used to promote literacy for students in grades K-3.  Coca-Cola has also been a generous sponsor of the program and of the t-shirts.

In addition to the encouragement to the fans to wear white in the stands, the football team will also be wearing throwback white jerseys along with a throwback helmet (click thumbnail above for larger picture).  

Yes, Jayski must rant now…..JIM WEAVER WANTS US TO BE PENN STATE!  That’s the way I really feel about this.  The reason behind the shirts is a great one and its great to do it for the first home game, but why must we wear white?  Why couldn’t there have been a better program design than the current t-shirts.  They’re not the prettiest things I’ve seen.  Orange/maroon tie-dye would have been really cool.  And yes, again, white is not a color of ours….but yes, everybody has white to a certain extent on their uniforms.  But our real colors are burnt orange and chicago maroon.  

The crew at SpitzerTailgate.com has declared September 6th to be Orange/Maroon Day!!!  Wear your orange and maroon to the game against Furman!  Why???  Because…WE ARE VIRGINIA TECH.  Not Penn State…sorry Jimmy.

Many were in attendance for Saturday’s Spring Game SpitzerTailgate.  The tailgate began at roughly 7 am and saw people visit throughout the day up until the march into Lane Stadium at around 1:30 that afternoon.  Our Virginia Tech football team was able to get some practice in, and so did the SpitzerTailgate crew!  Pictures will be posted soon of this weekend’s events!  Thanks for all who came to the tailgate!

SpitzerTailgate’s Blog will time to time have sections such as “Where is…(insert name here)?”  This week we start the column with a past Virginia Tech football player; Marcus Vick, the brother of Michael.  

I was reminded by Marcus Vick this week by seeing an update on the news feed on the main Facebook page.  Brenden Hill, another past player of the football team, had posted pictures on his Facebook profile entitled “Life of the Party.”  The subtitle of the photo album was “VA and Every where the Money Be!”  I don’t know where the money be…but I take it that Brenden and Marcus do.  The pictures were great to see, as we witness these ex-Hokies party it up!  There’s nothing like us seeing Brenden, Marcus, and also Aaron Rouse party and drink some Grey Goose, or whatever they prefer.  I know it ain’t Evan Williams though…

When we think of Marcus Vick, there are plenty of things that make our mouths taste really bad.  Now he has to be associated with his brother’s acts, which could be classified as more worse than whatever Marcus did before.  I hope this ex-Hokie, ex-Miami Dolphin is enjoying his life and his brother’s money.  I don’t even think NFL-Europe is calling his Blackberry.

I will be honest and state that this Hokie is glad that April 16th, 2008 has come…..and is gone.  The day was met with much anxiety, but overall; the day was a great reflecting time for the Hokie Nation.  And you wouldn’t you know it…Blacksburg was absolutely beautiful that day…much as it is today.

This webmaster was able to attend the ceremonies held on campus during the day, and was also able to relax and enjoy time with his friends.  After April 16th last year, it is really evident that one must enjoy their life and the people that they surround themselves with.  My friends and family are very important to me, and I plan on leaving it that way.

As we always remember the lives of our 32 Hokies, we must also remember that life is very precious and we must enjoy each second that we are here on this planet.
