Hokies win thrilling battle against Boston College…67-48!

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

ph2006113000016.jpg

The Virginia Tech Hokies won a great game against the Boston College Eagles Tuesday night in Blacksburg with a score of 67-48.  The Hokies are now 8-6 in the ACC and still have two more conference games with Wake Forest and Clemson coming up before the tournament.

Much can be said about the way that Seth Greenberg leads his team.  After a breakaway slam dunk by J.T. Thompson, Greenberg does the ‘raise the roof’ arm motion.  This is just great to see a coach that involved with the student body and alumni that are in the stands.

It’s been great over my 4 years as a student to witness Hokie sports.  I am proud to say that my last b-ball game as a student was a win.  Thank you Seth Greenberg for making this Virginia Tech team a great force in the ACC!  The future is going to be great for Hokie basketball!!!!

Hokies release 2008 football schedule

Friday, February 8th, 2008

20080208aaa1.jpg

The Virginia Tech Athletic Department released the 2008 football schedule today. The season begins with an away game in the Carolina Panthers’ arena, Bank of America Stadium, against East Carolina. The Hokies are then faced with five straight weeks of playing games by having Furman, Georgia Tech, Western Kentucky at home and traveling to UNC and Nebraska. Following an off-weekend, the Hokies are forced to have back-to-back away games with Boston College and Florida State. Two Thursday night games on ESPN follow against Maryland and Miami. The season ends with the tough teams of Duke and the Wahoos in Blacksburg.

This coming season’s schedule is very different for sure. We start with a game in a professional stadium and we are not playing for a championship or in a bowl game. The location of Charlotte shall be a decent travel for the Hokies, but I believe that many of us will travel to it. It will also be a tryout of Bank of America Stadium when we claim that town for two years when the ACC Championship comes to town. The likes of Furman and Western Kentucky always make you scratch your noggin, but they still compare to our games with Ohio and William & Mary this previous year. Speaking of the Nebraska, many Hokies may be apprehensive to travel to this. Even though they have been losing lately, theres still a chance that they will streak to their old glory days with Osborne. And all Hokies have to love our last two games at home…the Blue Devils and the ‘Hoos. Beamer needs to let our seniors loose on those games to show the NFL Draft that Virginia Tech is worth more than one Vick to us.

SpitzerTailgate will attend all home games in some fashion. The away games will be decided as each member pleases. The ECU and UNC games are possibilities for those games attended by SpitzerTailgate. Until the next time…..WHOA!!!!

Hokies signed 31 players yesterday!

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

306539.jpg

The Hokie football team signed 31 players yesterday on National Signing Day.  The signees include Ryan Williams, pictured above, from Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, Va.  Out of the 31 signees, 21 of them came from the state of Virginia.  It definitely shows that Frank Beamer and his coaches recruit very heavy in-state and take this very seriously.  The areas of 757 are always hit hard by VT and this still shows this year with about 7 signees being from that area code.  PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR A LISTING OF THE SIGNEES.

Which of these players will be the next Adibi or Tyrod?  I don’t know…but it will only be a couple of years from now to see.  It’s always interesting when it comes to college football.
