Random thoughts before SpitzerTailgate leaves for Florida…

Hello Hokies!  SpitzerTailgate is getting ready to head out of the cold weather into the great humidity of Florida!!!

It wasn’t surprising to see that Branden Ore was late for a practice and will not be playing in the 1st quarter of the Orange Bowl.  Ore has suffered motivational issues his whole time at VT; including coming to summer workouts out of shape and leaving school due to academic probation.  At least we get to see what we’ve wanted all year in the running backs position….”Put in Kenny Lewis!!”

Today and tomorrow’s bowl games should be a good glimpse into the future of the rest of the bowl games, including the BCS matchups.  I will not say how many games I have won in my pool…but I will say; I’m doing worse than last year.

If you’re in Miami for the OB, and you know us; give us a call for the location of the SpitzerTailgate.  OB will probably box us in somewhere, so the tailgate won’t be as comfortable as it normally is in Blacksburg.  Bring some food/drinks.

Until next time, GO HOKIES!

Cheating Seminoles?

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

bowden-dummies1.jpg

A cheating scandal at FSU?  Thats what the popular media has been portraying recently of Bowden and his no-show Seminoles.  The range that Bowden stated could be up to 25 of his players not being able to play against Kentucky in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl on New Year’s Eve.  He has also stated that nobody that was redshirted this year would be playing as a substitute for the ineligible players.  So, of course, the year that Frank and VT finally beat the ‘Noles, something like this comes up to play.  It will be something to see the impact of it on the bowl game….hold on, I hope I picked Kentucky.

Track presidents make friendly Orange Bowl bet

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Excerpt from SceneDaily.com:

“The presidents of Richmond International Raceway and Kansas Speedway have a good-natured wager on the upcoming Orange Bowl, which will feature Virginia Tech and Kansas University.  Richmond President Doug Fritz is an alum of Virginia Tech, while Kansas President Jeff Boerger is an alum of Kansas.  Fritz has agreed to send the entire Kansas Speedway staff Virginia hams and Virginia peanuts if his Hokies fall to the Jayhawks. If Virginia Tech wins, Boerger has agreed to bestow Kansas City strip steaks and sunflower seeds to the Richmond staff.  “Although I would like to introduce two very tasty Virginia products to the employees at Kansas Speedway, I would much rather taste victory over the Jayhawks when my beloved Hokies reign supreme at the Orange Bowl,” Fritz said in a news release. “I will be watching my good friend Coach Frank Beamer and his team closely from the stands, and I look forward to returning to Richmond to hand out the strip steaks and sunflower seeds to all of the employees at Richmond International Raceway. Go, Hokies.” Fritz is a 1981 graduate of Virginia Tech, while Boerger is a 1988 graduate of Kansas.

“The Virginia hams will taste extremely good after I watch my Jayhawks beat the Hokies of Virginia Tech,” Boerger said. “Coach Mark Mangino and his staff have done a great job this year, and it’s been exciting to watch KU get recognized for all of their hard work. Several staff members at Kansas Speedway are KU graduates, and we’ll all be pulling for the Jayhawks to beat the Hokies.”"

Bud Foster to West by-God??

Monday, December 17th, 2007

bud-wvu.jpg

Bud Foster to our arch-rival, West Virginia University???  That is the word out there today after Rich Rod is going to the other blue and gold, Michigan.  Other people had reported, including flightaware.com, of a jet leaving Blacksburg for Morgantown this morning.  But others had said that Bud was at practice in Blacksburg for bowl prepping.  We will always have to wait and see, but I don’t know if we could be in the same situation as FSU and offer a Jimbo Fisher-type deal for Bud.  If Foster leaves, our defense could feel it…..I hope he doesn’t take the lunchpail to Morgantown with him.

ZZ Top will be at the Orange Bowl! “A haw, haw, haw, haw, a haw.”

Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard, and Dusty Hill will be gracing us with their presence for pre and halftime shows at the Orange Bowl.  With such long beards and great songs such as “La Grange”, “Tush”, and “Legs”; we all will be having a good time with these near 60 year olds.  I bet they can still get around better than most of us, and hard to tell what kind of girls follow them also…

ACC Championship moved to Tampa Bay & Charlotte!

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

tampabayphoto400b.jpgcharlottephoto4001.jpg

No more Jacksonville for the ACC Championship!  ACC Committee has awarded the championship game to Tampa Bay for the years of 2008/2009 and to Charlotte for the years of 2010/2011.  Non-Floridian Hokies will now be forced to drive another 3 hours or so from Jacksonville to Tampa Bay for two years, if the Hokies end up fighting for the trophy again.  As a Hokie that attended this year’s ACC Championship, one could understand about moving it away from Jacksonville.  The stadium was empty, as it also was for the previous two years, and another site could definitely give the championship game some much needed spark.

SpitzerTailgate.com is thanking all of you for visiting our site! We are always updating our information on the site, as well as adding more items for your pleasure. We have started a poll that will be changed weekly, so make sure to vote. Jayski has been very busy with trying out different types of software that he could add onto the site. Stay tuned into SpitzerTailgate.com!

Let’s go ahead and have some fun and poke fun of that other school in the state:

A Virginia Tech student and a UVA student are both using the men’s room. When they finish their business, the Virginia Tech student heads for the door, while the UVA student heads for the sink.

The Wahoo calls to the Virginia Tech student, “At UVA, they teach us to wash our hands after using the bathroom.”

The Virginia Tech student replies, “At Virginia Tech, they teach us not to pee on our hands.”

SpitzerTailgate.com has been officially launched! This website will chronicle any Hokie adventures that SpitzerTailgate embarks on. Our next tailgating opportunity will be in Miami, FL for the FedEx Orange Bowl on January 3rd, 2008! If you’re interested in attending the tailgate, please message the webmaster to let us know.

SpitzerTailgate.com was decided to be launched to further our efforts of Virginia Tech tailgating and our love for the school. The SpitzerTailgates saw strong attendance this year and will definitely increase next year. There has been talk of adapting new aspects to the tailgate, such as a HokieMobile, VT cornhole games, SpitzerTailgate shirts, and more to be announced!
