Forget last weekends result against the CrimsonTide….we finally get a REAL home game in Blacksburg.  This weekend, we battle the Thundering Herd of Marshall.  This is by the far the easiest (well, maybe UVA) game we have on our schedule this year. And the month of September is looking more tough, after the recent win by Miami over Bowden & his Seminoles. If we come out with one win in the month of September, I will be happy…will that be a Marshall victory?

In terms of SpitzerTailgate, we will be arriving in Blacksburg on Saturday morning around the 9 o’clock hour.  You can find a map of our tailgate location on the main page of the site; 205 N. Kent Street, for those wondering.  Bring yourself and that’s it!  We’ll be discussing topics such as whether Brian Stinespring deserves to be re-hired for the 2010 season, and just how scary Bud Foster truly is.  

And oh yeah, by the way…be sure to grab yourself a cup of sangria when you stop by.  It’s a new SpitzerTailgate tradition!

SpitzerTailgate.com will release what games they are attending at a date to be announced.  The Nebraska game is almost a must; as it’s just very cool to see the Cornhuskers in Blacksburg.  And due to our homeplace being in Maryland…going to College Park sounds like a plan.

Common sense, personal finances, and the general economy are factors in deciding not to go to some games.  I mean, honestly…VT v. Alabama?  I love my Hokies, but can you say slaughter-fest?

Kinda want to go to the N.C. State game though…make up for that game freshman year in Blacksburg.  Damn field goals.

The Chick-fil-A Bowl committee announced today that Alabama Crimson Tide to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies for each team’s opening game of the ‘09 season.  The game will be held in Atlanta, Ga on September 5th.

There’s not much to say about this…at least from my perspective.  We’re gonna get our asses beat…sorry Hokie Nation…it’s the truth.  We had a tough time last year with the ECU Pirates…a potential defending national champion will be 10x more tough.

SpitzerTailgate will stay in and around the Mason-Dixon line for the opening game of the ‘09 season.  I’d rather contribute my projected expenses of the trip to Atlanta to my IRA.

The picture above is the coverage map for this weekend’s Virginia Tech v. Nebraska game.  Only 30% of the United States will get to view the VT-Cornhuskers game, while the other 70% will get to view a Top 25 battle of #22 Illinois and #12 Penn State.  

For most of those close to the region of Virginia will be OK to watch the game.  ABC/ESPN has elected to do a split-split-national broadcast for this weekend’s game, which some people will be shutout of the HOKIES game.  Last weekend’s VT game against UNC was a reverse mirror broadcast in that if the game was on ABC regionally, the game would be on ESPN outside of that region.  This is a better approach in order for the majority of people/fans to view a game.

And yes….even those living in Maryland will get the VT-Nebraska game; as long as you get ABC 7-WJLA out of Washington, D.C.  Thank god for living close to that hellhole.

We will be leaving town tomorrow afternoon to make the trek south to Charlotte, after a quick pit-stop in Blacksburg.  Hope to see everyone this weekend!

Thurs., 8/28, 10:32 pm:  Watching this ACC-SEC matchup tonight, with NC State and South Carolina playing.  I’m excited to have this season underway…the off-season was way too long.  Good night, y’all!
